(CNN) -- At the end of a long and divisive political season, the speeches of the victor and the vanquished shared similar themes. President Barack Obama, in his victory speech early Wednesday, said, "We are not as divided as our politics suggest." And in his concession speech, Mitt Romney made a similar point, saying, "We citizens have to rise to the occasion." Which prompts a big question. How do we rise to the occasion? What could or should each of us do? Could you, for example, find common ground with someone whose ballot looked opposite yours? What would it take? Let's start the conversation together. • Aggregate Sentiment is meant to be an indicator of an individual's overall sentiment.
  • The Mean is meant to be an indicator of an individual's average comment sentiment.
  • The Standard Deviation, when there are enough quotes, will indicate an individual's consistency of sentiment (i.e. a Standard Deviation of 0 would mean they were very consistent in their sentiment and 1 would mean they were very inconsistent).

Note that quote stats are likely to be meaningless beyond the aggregate score due to the tiny sample size. However, they are always provided just in case you find something useful there.

(CNN)-- For all our post-2012 election talk about the altering culture, the altering demographics and, possibly, a changing party, preparatory thoughts out of D.C. about the 2016 election have us headed to nothing change at all: Clinton vs Bush... again. I am as fascinated by the prospects of these 2 juggernauts, Jeb and Hillary, locking ideological horns as I am repulsed by the idea of half of my life being dominated by 2 family names. One, Clinton, has actually climbed from the ashes after the White House.

I’m deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Jack Brooks. He was a Texan through and through – tough, bold, and bigger than life. He lived by principles that were carved into his heart, and he was never afraid to fight for what he believed in. In the sixties, he was one of the few southerners to boldly support civil rights. And throughout his career, Jack was always determined to do right by the people who sent him to Congress, whether that meant investigating Iran Contra, or fighting to root out government waste. He was a great man, and one of the privileges of my Senate career was working side-by-side with Jack when I was Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee and he was Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee. Our thoughts and prayers are with Jack’s family today.
