Montgomery Advertiser states that Carter was one of just 4 from the original team of 33 fighter aviators still alive. He was additionally among the most vocal about the legacy of the African-American World War II aviators. They've been credited for their critical part in not just breaking down racial walls in the military, however helping to gain the war. Their objective was to secure bombers as they attempted to attack opponent troops. Carter continued to serve in the Air Force after the war prior to retiring as a lieutenant colonel in 1969. He then became the associate dean for student services at Tuskegeee University and served in a number of other positions throughout his time there. Carter liked to spend his time taking a trip and sharing tales about the Tuskegee Airmen.
